With the pace of life moving faster and faster (in first world countries), it makes me grateful for living in a third world country whose pace of life is still extremely slow. (Yes, this is frustrating when you’re trying to drive somewhere or get car papers, for instance.) But, living in a place where the pace is slow enough that I can reflect on my Lord and pray without ceasing is a big deal. Getting into the habits of spending time with God everyday is one that I plan to take with me wherever I move next. So, with such a busy life, how can we follow God’s want for us to pray without ceasing?
When you first wake up – When you wake up in the morning, say hello to God. Thank him for allowing you another day to live.
When you are brushing your teeth – There’s not much else to do when brushing your teeth normally, so use it as a time to speak with God about the rest of your day.
When you are en-route to work – So many people use this time to listen to music, books on tape, radio stations. Can you carve out a few minutes to devote to God? Ask God to bless you on your way to work. This is a great time to talk to God about your friends and family members that you may want to pray over.
When you drink the first sip of coffee or tea – Take time to thank God for the past blessings that have allowed you to be in this place and drinking this wonderful drink.
Each time you use the restroom – Going to the restroom is a private endeavor and thus, a great way to spend a few minutes thanking God for the many ways that He has blessed your day so far.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
During your workout – When you workout, the goal should be to show God that you are treating your body like a temple. You are using it to honor Him. Therefore, when you workout, thank God for your health.
Before you eat any food – Give thanks for the food that God has provided for you. Take time to thank all the people that worked the fields, factories, refineries, warehouses, and transportation that helped to get the food to you.
After you have been given big news – When someone gives you news (could be big or small) that shocks, angers, awes, or wows you, pray to God to help you respond appropriately. Ask God to guide your words.
When arguing or disagreeing with someone – Remember that our words and actions should show God’s love for us. It is our purpose to mimic that love so that others want a relationship with Him.
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18
Before going to bed – Before falling asleep, take time to thank God for all of the blessings he bestowed on you throughout the day.
When you can’t sleep – The older I get, the harder I feel it is to stay asleep during the night. Sometimes when I have trouble falling back asleep, I take time to talk to God. I let Him take my worries away and then I can return to sleep.
